Semana de Parques en Hartford

Our “Prelude to the Parks” begins with the Community Garden Tour at 5:15PM on August 19th at the Niles Street Garden (located between Sigourney and Laurel Streets). 

The Week of the Parks starts 8/21 on a festive note with the Dragon Boat Race and Asian Cultural Festival.  Our partners at Riverfront Recapture host this grand event that includes a record 67 teams (including one from the City led by Mayor Pedro Segarra).  Here’s the rest of the Week of the Parks:
August 23: 
6AM:The Department of Public Works begins its cleanup at Keney Park at Woodland
6AM:Community Rowing for Adults on the Connecticut River (Riverfront Recapture)
1PM:Health and Human Services provides special health screenings and programming in conjunction with the “Healthy Hartford” campaign.  City pools open all week. 
5:30PM: More Adult Rowing on the River.
6PM:The Hartford Public Library kicks-off a special exhibit and speakers program “Park Visionaries” at the Main Branch, 500 Main Street, in Downtown Hartford.  The focus is on Hartford parks’ past, present, and future.  Refreshments will be served.

August 24: 
6AM:Adult Rowing on the Connecticut River
7AM:DPW crews begin their work at Colt Park at Wawarme Street.  
1PM:HHS activities and health screenings run from 1-6PM.  City pools open all week.
3PM:High School Rowing on the Connecticut River
5:30 PM: Adult Rowing on the Connecticut River

August 25: 
6AM:Adult Rowing
7AM:DPW cleanup at Goodwin Park at Maple Avenue
1PM:HHS activities, swimming, and health screenings as well as entertainment.
3PM:High School Rowing
6PM:Green Ribbon Task Force holds first public meeting (with a historical exhibit and panel discussion) at Mark Twain House on Farmington Avenue in the Asylum Hill neighborhood.

August 26:
6AM:Adult Rowing on the Connecticut River
7AM:DPW cleanup at Bushnell Park at Elm Street
1PM:HHS providing health activities and entertainment
3PM:High School Rowing on the Connecticut River
6PM:Art exhibit and musical performances at the Pump House Gallery
 
August 27: 
7AM:DPW clean up at Keney Park at Barbour Street
1PM:HHS sponsors health and recreational activities until 6PM.

August 28:
9AM:Citywide Community Clean-up.  Groups of volunteers are still needed to register with our partners with Knox Parks Foundation by calling (860) 951-7694 x14.  Community groups, schools, block watches, neighborhood associations, businesses and residents are encouraged to select a public street/space, playground, small park, or cemetery to spruce-up and beautify!
